About back up and sync

Support and sync is a storage service that automatically saves your photos and videos to your Google Account. These photos and videos will be attainable from any device where you lot are logged into your account.

Benefits

  • Never lose a memory: Any photos you lot take from a device with fill-in enabled will exist saved to your Google Account.
  • Automatic sync: Any edits you make or photos you lot take will exist accessible across any device that you sign in to. If yous edit and save a photo on your telephone, the photo will look the same on Google Photos.
  • Fast and powerful search: Y'all can search your photos by the people (when you've enabled face grouping), places, and things in them. No tagging is required.
  • Automatic creations: Bring photos to life with automatically created movies, collages, animations, and panoramas.

Before you go started

What yous need to dorsum upward photos & videos

  • Adept internet connexion.
  • File sizes that can be backed up.  Your files won't be backed up if they are:
    • Photos larger than 200 MB or 150 MP
    • Videos larger than 10 GB.
    • Items smaller than 256 ten 256.
  • File types that can be backed upward.
    • Photos: .jpg, .heic, .png, .webp, .gif, and some RAW files.
    • Live photos can be backed up if y'all use the Google Photos app on your iPhone or iPad.
    • Videos: .mpg, .mod, .mmv, .tod, .wmv, .asf, .avi, .divx, .mov, .m4v, .3gp, .3g2, .mp4, .m2t, .m2ts, .mts, and .mkv files.

If you try to support a file type not listed hither, it may not work with Google Photos.

Important: Your Google Account storage is shared beyond multiple products similar Google Photos, Google Drive, and Gmail. If you have used all of your storage, yous won't be able to back up new files.

Ready Google Bulldoze for desktop

  1. On your computer, download and install Google Drive for Desktop.
  2. Sign in to your Google Business relationship.
  3. Select the folders or pictures you want to support and thenDorsum upward to Google Photos.
  4. Select Done and thenSalvage.

Important:

  • If you remove a photo or video from your computer that you previously backed up to Google Photos, it stays in Google Photos.
  • If you remove a photo or video from Google Photos, information technology isn't removed from Google Bulldoze or your reckoner.
  • Uploads tin can be slower and use more storage if you lot back up to both Google Photos and Google Bulldoze. Unless yous demand a second copy in Drive, we recommend yous back up photos and videos to Google Photos.

If y'all already have Backup and Sync for Drive

Backup and Sync is at present Google Drive for desktop.

If you already have Backup and Sync installed, y'all'll be migrated to Google Bulldoze for desktop.

To upgrade sooner, uninstall Fill-in and Sync and then follow the steps higher up to set Google Drive for desktop.

Select a unlike upload size

You lot can change the upload size for photos and videos backed up to Google Photos from your calculator.

Of import: You tin't change the upload size for files synced with Google Drive.

Back up your Apple Photo Library (Mac only)

If your calculator runs macOS, you can support your System Photo Library to Google Photos.

Tips:

  • If you have more than 1 Apple Photos Library, just the System Photo Library will exist backed up. You can use Apple Photos to modify the System Photo Library.
  • If your Apple tree Photo Library is synced with iCloud, all photos and videos in your library and deject will be backed up to Google Photos on macOS 10.15 and to a higher place.

Upload items to Google Photos from your browser

  1. On your computer, open photos.google.com.
  2. At the acme right, click Upload and thenComputer.
  3. Discover and select your photos.
  4. Click Open.

Yous tin also drag photos from your computer to the album to upload them to Google Photos. If you drag a photo to a specific album, the photo will be uploaded to that album.

View where your photos & videos were uploaded from

In Google Photos, you can view how you uploaded your photos and videos.
